The tetragrammaton name for G-d cannot be spoken as a common because it is too sacred, and speaking it that way will lead to blasphemy or desecration.



Reason for disused are

1.Reverence of the Sublime Name,guarding against desecrating the name,Ex20:3,4

2.Not to be misused by the Heathen of Unclean Lands(Babylon,Assyria etc.)because it was also known in on-Jewish circle due to its interdiction after the destruction of the temple

3.Many licentious priests.Dt5:12

The True name of G-d was uttered only during worship in the temple which the people alone and in the course of the services on the atonement day the high priest pronounced the Sacred name ten times.

The Hebrew G-d:Written

The Hebrew God is written like this G-d, spelled with a hyphen or circumlocution,because of their highest respect and great reverence to God. The tetragrammaton is used. But in this age, it is disused because once it is written it shall not be erased and must be stored.

There is a short form that you can write without offence. This is the words Yah,Yahu,Iah or Yeho,Ps68:4Examples of this forms are (H)Alleluyah,Re19:6

In Reading, the name of G-d is replace by the word Adonai"My Lord"(rhymes with eyes,some pronounce it this way)but more proper is Adonoi(rhymes with annoy). This is pronounce during prayer or learning Torah. 

Other are Ha-Shem"The Name" and Ado-Shem"The Lord's Name" and the euphemism Hashem Hameforash"The Explicit name"

The Masoretes invented a pronounciation system,that causes the confusion that the name of G-d is Yaweh,Jehovah,Jave.
