Scientology/dianetics

I don't know about this subject but I did hear a report concerning John Travolta leaving but they scared him off so he stayed. This group may have used coercion, intimidation, blackmail and false hope.I did read the Dianetics book, and definitely its just plain and temporary hope.

Dianetics is a set of ideas and practices regarding the metaphysical relationship between the mind and body that was invented by the science fiction author L. Ron Hubbard and are practised by followers of Scientology. Hubbard coined Dianetics from the Greek stems dia, meaning through, and nous, meaning mind.wikiped

Revelation,The Book of

Apocalypse (Ancient Greek: ἀποκάλυψις apocálypsis, from ἀπό and καλύπτω meaning 'un-covering'), translated literally from Greek, is a disclosure of knowledge, i.e., a lifting of the veil or revelation, although this sense did not enter English until the 14th century.[1]

Jude,The Book of

[Gr.Ioudas or Judas"finally"]

Courtesy of James Earl Jones(Bible Audio)The Book of Jude

Background:Many believe that Jude was a brother of Jesus. His letter uses almost the same words as 2P2-3:3 to condemn all who mislead by their wrong teaching. He too writes of their future punishment and encourages his reader to keep to the teaching they were given originally.

Author:Jude, brother of Jacob and half-brother of Jesus                (1:1Mt13:53-56)

Date and Location: Perhaps cAD69:
-1:14-18 seems to describe the false teachers Peter had warned of their coming((2P2:1-19;3:1-3).While Peter, writing cAD64-67,expected their arrival soon(2P2:1),they had already arrived by the time Jude wrote(4)
-Jude probably wrote before Jerusalem's fall in 70,since if that event had already occurred,he will mention it in connection with the Exodus(5)
-17,suggests that, through most of the apostles were gone by the time Jude wrote, many of his readers had been instructed by them.

Recipients:Christians everywhere(1)

Purpose:Encourage Christians in their faith and to warn them of false teachers

Unique Features:
-Most general Nt letter

2John,the Book of

Courtesy Of James Earl Jones(Bible Audio)2John

Background:This is written to"the chosen lady"which probably refers to a church, not an individual. Some of the themes found in 1Jn are taken up here:loving God means doing what he has told us to do and loving others. The writer warns about each others of wrong ideas.

Author:John the beloved disciple of Jesus Christ

Date and Location:cAD85-95,after 1Jn and about the same time of 3Jn;from Ephesus,as were John,1Jand 3n

1John,Book of

Courtesy of James Earl Jones(Bible Audio)1John

Chapter 1-3

Chapter 4-5

Background:It is probable that the writer of this letter and 2 and 3John was also the writer of the Gospel of John and the book of Revelation. It is clear that the Christians to whom he wrote 1 John were worried by teachers of strange ideas. They were saying they had special understanding of spiritual matters. This meant claiming to be perfect on the one hand, and that Jesus could not have been a real man on the other. In reply John stresses the certainty that Christians have:"we know"is a favorite phrase. One of the clear proofs that people are Christians is that they love other Christians.

Author:John the Beloved disciple of Jesus Christ

Date: c.AD85-95,probably sometime after the Gospel of John, see John

Location:See John.1Jn was probably a circular letter to believers throughout the ROman province of Asia +the 7 churches of Rv2,3

Purpose:To reassure them that through Jesus they have eternal life(5:13)and can enjoy fellowship with God and with fellow believers(1:3,4)

Unique Features:
-no salutation or signature
-no direct OT quotations
-highlights 3 characteristics of God:
=He is light(1:5)
=He is righteous(2:29)
=He is Love(4:8,16)
-John was known as the beloved disciple(Jn13:23),but also a"Son of Thunder"(Mk3:17).This letter, with its gentleness and severity, justifies both names:
=addressing readers as"my dear children"
=yet was adamant in warning of apostasy and in maintaining the division between the absolute light of God and the absolute darkness of the Devil and his works(1:5)
-it contains perhaps the bible's best and most concise description of worldliness(2:15-17)

Comparison:

Ge:Jn,1JN:All "Begin at the beginning"but differently:Gen,with creation;Jn,1Jn begin before Creation,with the pre-existent word

John:Both contain specific statements of the author's purpose of writing(1:1-4);1Jn,supplements John in his efforts to strengthen believers in their faith
