Malachi, The Book of The Prophet

[He. Malakiy “My Messenger”]

Background: This book indicates that after the time of Haggai and Zechariah things deteriorated again. The people felt disappointed with God (1:2-5), the religious leaders were corrupt and slipshod in their duties (1:6-2:9) and everybody disobedient to God’s laws (2:10-16) while at the same time treating him with contempt (2:17-3:18). Ch4 looks forward to the time when injustice will be dealt with and those who are loyal to God will be restored.
