[Gr.Matthaios / Matthaeus or He.Mathityah “gift of God”]
Background: The first 3 Gospels follows a similar pattern and are often called as Synoptic Gospels, because they “see together” the life of Jesus. Yet each has its own particular emphasis. Matthew begins by tracing Jesus’ family history back to Abraham and recounts various incidents concerned with Jesus’ birth (1, 2). His carefully organised Gospel and he is especially interested in what Jesus said: The sermon on the Mount (5-7), parables about the kingdom of heaven (13) and parables about the end of time (25). He also shows that Jesus is the Messiah spoken of in the OT. 28chs
